Price is usually the first thing buyers compare, but it's rarely the thing that determines whether a supplier relationship lasts. The suppliers that keep customers for years tend to win on three quieter factors: consistency, traceability, and communication.
Consistency means the product you receive on order five looks and tastes the same as order one. Ask a potential supplier how they manage quality control between harvests and batches, a vague answer is a warning sign.
Traceability means being able to answer "where did this specific batch come from?" if a customer ever asks. Suppliers who can walk you through their sourcing chain, from farmer to warehouse to your door, are generally the ones worth building a relationship with.
Communication is the most underrated factor. Shipping delays happen to everyone, what matters is whether your supplier tells you before you have to ask, and whether someone actually responds when you reach out.
A good first test: send a real question before you place any order, and see how the answer comes back. That single interaction tells you more than any brochure will.
